Not a rockfish and not a cod — lingcod hit like a freight train and live on the reefs around our islands.
Lingcod are aggressive ambush predators that hang around the same rocky reefs as our rockfish and can grow well over 30 lbs. The meat is firm, mild, and absolutely delicious.
Lingcod retention has been open May 1 – September 30 in recent DFO regulations for this area. Rules change year to year — we fish whatever is legal on your date and release everything else carefully. Check the official sources linked from useful links.
