Year-round around Denman and Hornby Island, peak May through September — that's when you're most likely to hook a fish over 20 lbs, with Tyee potential. Winter Springs average 6–14 lbs, a quiet-season treat when the crowds are gone.
Note: Chinook is catch & release only until July 15, 2026. Coho opens June 1, 2026; Lingcod & Rockfish are open May 1 – September 30 per current DFO regulations.
June - October, 4 - 15 lbs. Notorious scrappers on light gear — Coho hit hard, run fast, and jump like crazy. One of the most exciting fish you'll hook into around the islands.
Open May 1 – September 30 per DFO regulations. These reef dwellers live in the rocky structure around our islands. Quillback, Black, Copper, and Yellowtail rockfish are the keepers we target during the open season — carefully handled to protect these long-lived species. Note: Yelloweye rockfish are closed to retention in BC (DFO conservation closure) — if one comes up by mistake, we release it carefully.
Open May 1 – September 30 per DFO regulations. Not a rockfish and not a cod — lingcod are aggressive ambush predators that hit like a freight train. They hang around the same rocky reefs and can grow well over 30 lbs. The meat is firm, mild, and absolutely delicious.
Seasonal. Often included on longer trips — an incredible bonus catch.
